(TargetLiberty.org) – Bob Vander Plaats, an influential evangelical leader in Iowa, has doubled down on his dislike for former President Donald Trump and has once again reiterated his support for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis who is trying to win the Republican nomination in 2024.

The Family Leader CEO told the Blaze’s Steve Deace that he had never been a Trump supporter after Trump went on the offensive. He added that the biggest problem that Trump is facing is that he had never met any father, mother, or grandparent who had stated that they wanted their children and grandchildren to grow up and be like Trump.

He added that Iowa was going to rise up and that Trump was not the leader that the country needed.

Still, despite the claims of the evangelical leader, Trump continues to hold a very strong lead in the 2024 Republican presidential primary race. Following Vander Plaats’ endorsement of DeSantis, Trump was quick to attack him.

The two presidential candidates have been campaigning for support in Iowa ahead of the state’s Caucuses in January.

During the weekend, Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to state that Vander Plaats was going to do anything necessary in order to win, especially as he has not managed to win in years. He added that what he is known for was scamming candidates and endorsing a candidate who had no chance of becoming the U.S. President.

Previously Vander Plaats had spoken up in disapproval of Trump arguing that the voters felt that it was time to move on and that they were “tired” of Trump’s behavior.
