(TargetLiberty.org) – Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who is one of the 2024 Republican presidential candidates argued on Friday during the Lincoln Day Dinner in Des Moines, Iowa that it was necessary for public officials over the age of 75 to complete “competency tests.”
Earlier that week, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 81, had frozen mid sentence during a press conference. Haley argued that this was necessary to impose term limits and that McConnell’s incident on Wednesday further showed how important it is to ensure that the people in a position to make decisions are cognitively able to do so.
During the news conference, McConnell had temporarily paused in the middle of his sentence and was then swiftly escorted out of the area and into his office. He returned to the press session only a few minutes later and answered questions asked by reporters.
However, as Haley pointed out, these are the same people who get to make important decisions about national policy and security. As she argued, competency tests would not be hard and they would be a requirement for both the Democrats and the Republicans.
As she noted there was something in Washington that was not working, especially as in the last few years trillions of dollars had been spent. She then pointed out the $2.2 trillion pandemic stimulus bill that had been passed through the House without any accountability.
Haley pointed out that Congress had also allowed for multiple funding projects, at a time when 60 percent of Americans had credit card debt, and 1 in 6 Americans was having a hard time paying their bills.
