(TargetLiberty.org) – The Title IX civil rights law has long been a controversial one. Introduced with the noble intent of reducing discrimination, critics say it’s too open to abuse and has led to colleges running quasi-legal procedures that tread all over the rights of the accused. Now Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is reforming the system in the face of determined opposition from Democrats. However, one Democrat who’s been a vocal supporter of Title IX up to now is staying uncharacteristically silent – presumptive presidential nominee Joe Biden.
Two years ago, I promised to address the scourge of sexual misconduct on our nation’s campuses. The new #TitleIX regulation delivers on that promise. It treats all students fairly and holds all schools accountable if they fail to protect their students: https://t.co/HEuugNWBe0

DeVos’s reforms should be uncontroversial. The focus is on adding some protection for those accused in Title IX cases, by restoring due process to college-led procedures. However, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other senior Democrats have condemned them. What’s notable is that Biden, who previously supported the Title IX process, isn’t joining with the Dems this time.
A cynic might suggest that’s because if the allegations made against him by Tara Reade were judged under the existing Title IX rules, he’d almost certainly be found guilty. Maybe being on the other side of the argument is making Biden look at things in a new light.
