(TargetLiberty.org) – On Thursday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis during an interview on Fox News with Jason Chaffetz opposed the decision by the Maine Secretary of State who deemed former President Donald Trump ineligible to appear on the state’s primary ballot. He further urged Republicans to keep their focus on the shortcomings of the Democratic party instead of on the legal troubles of the former President.
DeSantis argued that the possibility that one individual could “unilaterally disqualify” someone from running for office was completely turning against the constitutional due process that the United States has abided by for centuries. He added that this situation opened up “Pandora’s Box” and suggested that similarly Republican states could have their secretaries of state disqualify President Biden from the ballot on the grounds that he had allowed the “massive invasion” of migrants in the U.S.-Mexico border.
DeSantis, who is running for the White House in 2024, stated that he believes the ruling in Main would be overturned by the Supreme Court. Still, as he pointed out, Trump’s legal troubles will continue to be in the media spotlight. As he noted throughout the presidential election cycle, different parts of the legal cases that Trump is facing would be at the forefront.
The Florida governor pointed out that the way for the GOP to win was to hold President Biden accountable and continue to place the focus on the more central issues faced by the American people. He pointed out that the Democrats want the election to be centered on anything but these issues as they do not want to be held accountable over their “failed policies.”
