(TargetLiberty.org) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ political team took a shot at former President Donald Trump on Wednesday after DeSantis received a staggering 99 endorsements from lawmakers in the Florida state legislature. A top DeSantis political operation official told Fox News Digital that DeSantis had “almost universal” support within the Florida legislature. They added that this was in large part because they had worked with the governor to progress his conservative agenda and place Florida in the top position in many important metrics.
The phrase “almost universal” was a clear jab at Trump who had previously stated the same thing about himself in April, after he received close to half of Florida’s Republican congressional delegation endorsements.
DeSantis has not yet announced his plans for the 2024 presidential race, but he is widely expected to be preparing to join the race. The 99 endorsements make up a large part of the total 113 Republican lawmakers in the state legislature. Trump has so far been endorsed only by one of them.
Still, DeSantis has not managed to gain as much support from Republican members of Congress, only receiving the endorsement of Rep. Laurel Lee. The Trump campaign has also accused DeSantis and his political team of having threatened those who have endorsed him, by telling them that he would use his veto power against them.
Stephen Cheung, a Trump campaign spokesman, in a statement, claimed that DeSantis’ political allies had terrorized those in the legislature, but still there were some brave enough to stand up against him and do what was right for both Florida and the country.
