(TargetLiberty.org) – In the straw poll during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this past week the majority of attendees selected former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination in 2024. In the poll, Trump received 62 percent of the votes, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was second with only 20 percent of the respondents supporting him.

In terms of whom the attendees would prefer to see be Trump’s running mate, Kari Lake was the clear winner with 20 percent. DeSantis, who is most likely going to announce his own presidential campaign, received support from 14 percent of attendees for becoming Trump’s running mate.

DeSantis did not attend the CPAC, instead choosing to make a number of appearances across Texas county Republican parties in both Dallas and Harris counties for annual Reagan Dinner fundraisers.

The former United Nations Ambassador, Nikki Hailey who joined the presidential race in February, received 20 percent of the votes for becoming Trump’s running mate.

Lake is a failed former Arizona Republican gubernatorial nominee, who while having Trump’s endorsement did not manage to secure a victory in the 2022 midterm election. Following the election results she launched a legal fight claiming that the outcome of the elections was incorrect and that it needed to be overturned.

On Saturday she also suggested that she had received a visit from someone this past week who had bribed her to keep away from politics. As she said the person told her that this conversation needed to take place in person. As she said during her speech, “They tried to bribe me with a job title, with a huge salary, a position on a board; this is how they do it…”
