(TargetLiberty.org) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is former President Donald Trump’s biggest challenger for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, has remained silent on whether he would pardon Trump if he were to win the presidential election. Trump was indicted last week in connection to his alleged mishandling of classified documents, however in his first appearance in court, he pleaded not guilty to all 37 counts, including 31 counts relating to violations of the Espionage Act.
DeSantis made a statement against the “weaponization” of federal law enforcement under President Biden, however, he did not state whether or not he would be pardoning Trump if he was found guilty. Three GOP candidates, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and talk show host Larry Elder have already stated that if they were elected president they would pardon Trump in this case.
Ramaswamy on Tuesday, even stated during a press conference in Miami, Florida that he was encouraging all presidential hopefuls from all parties to vow to pardon Trump if they win the White House.
Ramaswamy during the press conference argued that while the presidential race would be a lot easier for him if Trump was not in it, he is not interested in winning the election by eliminating other challengers through arrests.
Haley, who in her statements claimed that if the indictment proved to be true then Trump’s actions were “reckless” also stated that she was “inclined” to pardon him. This statement was made during a segment of the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton podcast, where she claimed it would be harmful to the country if the former U.S. president was imprisoned because of a documents case.
