DeSantis Makes Matters Even Worse For Disney

(TargetLiberty.org) – A new bill passed by the Florida House and Senate and signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) that would give the newly-appointed board that has been given oversight over Disney World, to dismiss a previously signed agreement between Disney and the previous board members.

The legislation, which passed through Congress on Wednesday and Thursday, before being signed on Friday took action against Disney’s last attempt to take back all the power that was being granted to the five-member board.

This law is DeSantis’ most recent attempt at controlling Walt Disney Corp. The company and DeSantis have had an ongoing feud for over a year following Disney’s criticisms of the state’s Parental Rights in education act, which prohibited all instruction of sexual orientation and gender identity to school children between kindergarten and third grade.

The law was criticized by many and dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” law. Disney in particular vowed to work towards getting the law repealed and spoke openly about their support for the LGBTQ community. In response, DeSantis stripped its special status, which gave the company self-governing power over the Reedy Creek Improvement District, and replaced Reedy Creek with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.

However, right before the new board took control the company signed a secret agreement with the previous board that gave it back authority over the land of its Disney World Park. This latest law by DeSantis means that this secret agreement can now be canceled by the new board.
