(TargetLiberty.org) – Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who is one of the 2024 GOP presidential candidates slammed the Washington jurors on the third indictment that was recently announced against former President Donald Trump.
On Tuesday, a Washington grand jury indicted Trump on four counts that are all connected to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack and his efforts to remain in power following his 2020 presidential election loss. These are the most serious charges that Trump has had to face to date.
DeSantis took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to say that while he has seen reports about the indictment he had not yet seen the indictment. He added that he thought it was necessary for reforms to be enacted nonetheless so that cases would be removed from Washington, D.C., which he referred to as a swamp. He added that the indictment was further proof of the weaponization of the Department of Justice. As he stated this shows a clear decline in the rule of law and he would bring an end to this weaponization of the federal government.
Special counsel Jack Smith in the 45-page indictment noted that there are four charges that Trump is facing right now, these include conspiracy against rights, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
The indictment further reads that despite being aware that he had lost the presidential election on November 3, 2020, Trump continued going around spreading lies that the elections were fraudulent and that he had in fact been the winner of the election.
