(TargetLiberty.org) – On Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis requested Sean Hannity, a Fox News host, to arrange a debate where he could take on former President Donald Trump’s head.

Trump and DeSantis are both competing in the 2024 GOP primary race, however, DeSantis is significantly further behind than Trump who has been dominating the primary election polls across the nation. With the Iowa caucuses fast approaching, DeSantis has been trying to close the gap between himself and the former President.

While DeSantis has participated in all of the Republican presidential debates so far, Trump has refused to attend, citing his large lead in the race as the reason that the debates are obsolete. DeSantis has frequently slammed Trump over his decision to avoid the challenge.

In an interview on Fox News’s “Hannity” DeSantis introduced the idea that Hannity should host a debate for him and Trump. Previously Hannity had been the one to host the heads-on debate between DeSantis and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).

DeSantis said that he did not think he and Hannity had spoken since that debate, but that the response to the debate had been incredible and had helped show how effective freedom could be. DeSantis also praised Hannity for the way that he had handled the debate and suggested that the host should moderate more debates against himself and other top Republican candidates.

Trump is currently leading the primary race by at least 30 points, while former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, has managed to gain a lot of momentum in the race and is currently polling ahead of DeSantis in New Hampshire.
