Former President Trump and Florida Governor DeSantis, who are both running in the GOP presidential primary race, recently got into a verbal fight over the word “woke.”

On Saturday, DeSantis spoke to reporters and said that woke is a threat to our society. This comment resulted in the reporters asking him about the comments that had been made a couple of days earlier by former President Donald Trump.

Trump had reportedly said during remarks at the Westside Conservative Club in Urbandale, Iowa that he disliked the term “woke” because it is a term being used all the time when majority of the people who use it don’t actually know what it means or how to define it. In response to these comments, DeSantis stated that it was “not a big deal” and that Trump’s statements simply showed that he could not understand many of the key issues that the country is currently facing.

Last November, Trump announced his third presidential bid. Since then, he has managed to climb to the top of the Republican primary polls. DeSantis, who only announced his candidacy this month and is number two on the nomination polls, has been widely viewed across the country as a conservative and is known for his culture war battles. He has also frequently stated that Florida “is where woke goes to die.”

The Republican race so far, while crowded, is widely expected to come down to a fight between DeSantis and Trump as the two men are far above the rest of both the declared and undeclared GOP candidates.
