(TargetLiberty.org) – Former Vice President Joe Biden has seen a surge in his campaign over the past week and Democrats have been throwing their support behind him. However, one endorsement is noticeably missing. Barack Obama has yet to endorse Biden — or any other presidential candidate for that matter.
Speaking with Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday,” Biden said his win in South Carolina gave him a “big boost.” That certainly seems to be the case considering his rivals have been dropping like flies.
Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar and Tom Steyer all dropped out of the race after Biden dominated the South Carolina primary.
Why Is Obama Silent?
Both Buttigieg and Klobuchar have endorsed Biden, and many other high-profile Democrats, such as Beto O’Rourke, have also thrown their support behind him. Even Former Obama White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough has endorsed Biden.
However, Obama has yet to align himself with any of the presidential candidates, including his former vice president. Experts say that an Obama endorsement would give his campaign another boost. But Biden says he doesn’t need it “because everyone knows I’m close with him.”
Why has Obama remained silent? Sources close to the matter say the answer to that is simple. If he were to endorse a candidate now, it would further the division within the party and will weaken his standing when it’s most important — during the general election.
As for who Obama will ultimately endorse, the former president says he will support whoever gets the nomination. The real question is, can Biden beat Sanders without it?
