(TargetLiberty.org) – House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York) is coming to President Joe Biden’s defense, suggesting the President’s son did “nothing wrong” in relation to a federal probe into gun and tax offenses.
Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Jeffries supported Biden when asked if the President’s comments about the investigation into his son were “appropriate.”
The New York Democrat defended Biden weighing in on the matter, saying Biden “commented as a loving father,” before drawing parallels to former President Donald Trump’s case, stating that Hunter Biden was also entitled to “the presumption of innocence” and to a trial before a “jury of his peers.”
He added that the Department of Justice would “proceed in that fashion” by presenting the facts and the law before the 12-person jury decides whether Hunter Biden is innocent or guilty.
Last year, President Biden suggested his troubled son Hunter Biden “has done nothing wrong” when discussing a multiyear investigation into his son’s alleged wrongdoing. The President’s comments preceded Hunter Biden’s indictment for gun and tax charges.
Hunter Biden will be heading to trial this week in Delaware on federal gun charges.
Prosecutors argue the President’s son illegally purchased a gun by falsely claiming on a form that he was not a drug user, despite being in the throes of an addiction.
In October last year, Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to the federal gun charges. He has repeatedly attempted to delay the charges from going to trial and also failed to get the charges dismissed.
