(TargetLiberty.org) – Community leader and mother of P.S. 188 graduate Lakeisha Bowers and NYC council member Ari Kagan (R) have slammed Mayor Eric Adams for his decision to house migrants in public schools.
Bowers, whose son graduated from a Brooklyn school that is now being used to shelter migrants, and NYC council member Ari Kagan (R) joined “Fox & Friends” Tuesday to discuss why members of the community were infuriated by this decision.
As Kagan explained this was neither a hotel nor a shelter but rather it was a school gym. He added that the children in these areas should not have to pay for the “misguided” Biden administration policies.
The New York Post recently revealed that dozens of migrants were going to be housed at the gym located outside the P.S. 188 Brooklyn elementary school without providing any timeline for the length of time that the gym is going to be used as an emergency shelter.
The migrants arrived only two days after the school’s principal had warned that the school’s facility might end up being selected as an emergency site. Following the community outrage about this decision the migrant families that were meant to be sent to the gym have temporarily not been sent to the emergency shelter.
New York City continues to struggle with providing enough shelter and housing for the thousands of migrants that are arriving from the southern border. Many of the migrants in the city are being sent there on buses sent from border states like Texas.
Bowers stated that parents were outraged when they heard about the plan to have at least six Brooklyn-area schools being used in this way.
