(TargetLiberty.org) – Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) received a lot of criticism after arguing that the only way to change “corrupt” Washington, D.C. was through force.
The Florida Representative who is known for being a strong ally of former President Donald Trump made the remarks while attending the Iowa State Fair. These comments came after Trump’s recent indictment that is connected to his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. At the time a mob of his supporters had stormed the Capitol fueled by Trump’s comments about the election being fraudulent and stolen. The deadly Capitol insurrection had taken place on Jan. 6, 2021.
Trump pleaded not guilty to all four charges in this case which included, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.
Gaetz, while standing next to Trump, stated that while they were all enjoying their time at the fair, it was known that the only way to bring about change was through “force.” He proceeded to tell Trump that he could not stand those who were destroying the U.S. by opening the borders and weaponizing law enforcement.
He then proceeded to urge all those in Iowa that they need to work harder than Trump was working to help ensure that their movement would be successful. He argued that they would win Iowa and the nomination and that they would work to save the U.S.
On Friday, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is handling Trump’s case, limited the information that Trump could talk about in relation to the investigation.
