Democrats Introduce Bill to Eliminate Space Force

Congressman Introduces Bill to Eliminate Space Force

( – One of former President Donald Trump’s crowning achievements was the creation of the Space Force. The 45th POTUS created the new military branch in order to protect the US from potential threats in space. He expressed concern that it would be the next battlespace and wanted America to be ready. Now, Democrats are trying to undo his hard work.

House Democrats recently introduced the “No Militarization of Space Act,” to abolish the Space Force. Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA) sponsored the legislation and Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Maxine Waters (D-CA), Jesús García (D-IL), and Mark Pocan (D-WI) co-signed it.

In a statement about the bill, Huffman said the “long-standing neutrality of space” has created an age of exploration that’s both competitive and non-militarized. He believes the new military branch threatens “longstanding peace” and wastes “billions of taxpayer dollars.”

Huffman paints a rosy picture of space, but ignores the threat the military has already outlined. In 2019, the Pentagon warned that China and Russia are already weaponizing space. The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) released an extensive report outlining the security concerns.

According to the report, both China and Russia hope to undermine US “military effectiveness.” The countries are reportedly developing “jamming and cyberspace capabilities, directed energy weapons, on-orbit capabilities and ground-based anti-satellite missiles.”

If Democrats succeed in abolishing the Space Force, they could put the US military in a critical position where it cannot counter threats posed by the Chinese and Russians.
