(TargetLiberty.org) – California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in a recent interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” which aired on Monday argued that it was time to “move on” from speculations about him joining the presidential race in 2024.
During the interview, Chuck Todd specifically noted that the filings are still allowed and questioned whether if President Biden drops out of the race, then they should consider Newsom to be a “likely candidate.”
In response, Newsom pointed out that the Vice President is the one who is naturally next in line to join the race. He added that the filing deadlines were going to arrive soon and that it was time that they moved forward from these speculations about him joining the race. As he pointed out, President Biden was running for reelection and he was looking forward to helping him win a second term in office.
When asked about what his response was when he received private calls about joining the presidential race, Newsom argued that he just stated it was, “Time to move on. Let’s go.”
There have been many speculations about Newsom being a potential presidential candidate, however, the California governor has maintained that he would not be running for the White House in 2024 even if in a hypothetical scenario the President chose not to seek reelection. During the interview, he also stressed that even if Biden was not in the Presidential race the party would just rally around Vice President Harris as the second option.
He added that this is the Biden-Harris administration and that perhaps he had an “old-fashioned” idea about the two offices.
