During an MSNBC interview, Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., had said his family has been targeted by people who “parrot” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s words.
During an appearance on “Deadline: White House” with Nicolle Wallace, Swalwell was asked why McCarthy had chosen to have him removed from his position in committees. In response, Swalwell said that this was just “political vengeance.” He added that this entire situation stems from the alleged ties that he had with Fang Fang, a suspected Chinese Spy.
As he noted though, three separate FBI investigations have shown that there have never been any wrongdoings on his end. He further noted a Washington Post fact-check that took care of McCarthy’s allegations that there had been any allegations of wrongdoing. This was also noted in an Axios article.
McCarthy however, said that from an FBI briefing, he had learned that Swalwell should not have a position in any of the committees. However, Swalwell has noted that McCarthy’s claims have not only affected his committee assignments but have also led to him getting “death threats” from people who believe McCarthy’s narrative.
Swalwell added that he told McCarthy this publicly and has informed him that his wife and kids are also being threatened because of the situation. Still, McCarthy appears to be unmoved and only focused on his “vengeance.”
McCarthy told Punchbowl News that Swalwell would not have gotten any security clearance if he was working in the private sector which is why it is absurd for him to get it while working in the government.
