New York Governor Calls Herself an “Underdog”
(TargetLiberty.org) – New York’s incumbent governor represents one of the most solidly blue states in the country. She’s backed by an experienced, well-funded party machine. She’s been ahead in the polls for most of the campaign. And yet she’s describing herself as the “underdog.” What’s gone wrong for the New York Democrat?
#NewYork’s Gov. @KathyHochul has raised eyebrows by calling herself an “underdog” in her race against Rep. @LeeZeldin.
With less than 2 weeks to go before the #Midterms2022, Hochul’s lead over Zeldin is narrowing. https://t.co/gRDwDJlCu6

According to the latest Trafalgar Group poll on New York’s gubernatorial race, GOP challenger Lee Zeldin has now edged into a one-point lead over Governor Kathy Hochul (D). It’s the first time Zeldin has pulled in front, but he’s been focusing relentlessly on New York City’s crime wave and Hochul’s failure to deal with it. New York has been plagued by rising violence, which Zeldin is blaming on cashless bail and the activities of ultra-liberal DAs, but the governor is refusing to address the issues. Now, it looks like that’s starting to really hurt her campaign.
Talking to reporters in Queens on October 29, Hochul seemed to be in damage control mode. According to NY State of Politics, she said she’s been “real clear in [her] expectations of this race since the beginning” — and went on to claim she’s the underdog. Apparently, she thinks this because she’s only been in office for a short time. Unless she can turn the polls around in the next few days, it looks like it isn’t going to get any longer.
