(TargetLiberty.org) – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) likes to call himself a Liberal, but he’s clearly forgotten what the word actually means – a supporter of liberty. In a bizarre display of micromanagement and control freakery, Cuomo hasn’t only banned New York bars from selling alcohol to anyone who doesn’t also order food – he’s now dictating what kinds of food can be sold, too.
Last week, Cuomo ordered bars to restrict alcohol sales to patrons who also ordered food. As many people didn’t actually want food along with their drinks, bars quickly began offering small options to minimize food waste and unnecessary costs – for example, one bar offered a $1 portion of “Cuomo Chips.”

Now the State Liquor Authority has issued a draconian set of requirements for acceptable bar food. The recommended minimum is sandwiches or soup, or “foods which are similar in quality and substance to sandwiches and soups.” Salads, wings and hot dogs are permitted, chips, nuts and candy are not. With state officials setting menus, will anyone be surprised to see rationing imposed next?
