(TargetLiberty.org) – Liberal billionaire George Soros is well known for funding an array of left-wing causes. Now it turns out he’s also been funding a prominent conservative group. The question is – why?

The American Conservative Union (ACU) is one of the oldest and most influential right-wing organizations in the US. It’s best known for the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), and it also ranks politicians for their level of conservatism. The ACU has consistently supported former President Donald Trump.
Now it’s emerged the ACU has received six-figure funding from the New Venture Fund, a left-wing group that pays over a billion dollars a year to push liberal causes – and gets its money from George Soros. The funding was revealed in the New Venture Fund’s 2020 financial records, which shows it paid the ACU $183,250 for “civil rights, social action, advocacy.”
The ACU and its chairman, Matt Schlapp, don’t promote the kind of social action Soros usually supports, so why is he funding it? The 2020 grant amounts to just over 1% of the ACU’s annual revenue, so it isn’t a major source of funding, but it’s puzzling that Soros gave such a prominent conservative organization any funding at all. Is the investor more even-handed than he’s been given credit for – or is something suspicious going on at the ACU?
