COVID-19 and Mosquitoes: The Fight Is On

(TargetLiberty.org) – When people think about the deadliest creature on the planet, the first animal that probably comes to mind is a bear, cheetah or snake. However, the most dangerous creature is so small and stealthy, humans are mostly unaware of its presence until they start itching. In fact, the deadly mosquito can and does carry diseases that kill over a million people each year. Other victims wind up in the hospital for treatment where they risk exposure to other diseases like COVID-19.

The majority of people suffering from mosquito-delivered malaria and dengue fever are in India. The national government in the Asian nation was hard at work trying to eliminate malaria by 2030 when the coronavirus arrived in early 2020. Now, reaching its goals will be more difficult, but there’s still hope to save lives by pooling resources and working together as a community.

In the meantime, those in the area are encouraged to avoid the flying bugs as much as possible. To eliminate or reduce mosquito threats, experts suggest using netting around windows and beds, using bug spray before leaving the house, and eliminating all non-moving water from the yard to discourage breeding. Medical professionals urge anyone who suspects they have malaria or dengue to seek medical treatment immediately.
