(TargetLiberty.org) – Following Saturday’s former President Donald Trump’s rally, where there had been an attempt on his life, Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.), who was in attendance, pushed for Americans to put an end to this type of rhetoric in an attempt to lower the political temperature.
On Sunday, during a phone interview on The Hill, Kelly argued that both physically and mentally he was fine but that this needed to stop. He added that there was a deep divide in the United States and that this was not the country that he had grown up in. He added that currently, the country was like “a third-world country” and that this is not the United States of America, but rather the “divided states of America”.
Kelly, who is the representative of Butler, Pennsylvania, which is where Trump’s rally had been held, had been in attendance at the event along with his grandchildren, wife, and family members. Many of his staff were also in attendance, but everyone was unharmed after the shooting.
He noted that the incident had been “surreal” when Trump had been shot and had been pushed to the ground while people all around were screaming and looking up to see others that had blood on their shirts. He added that the reality is that everyone needs to take personal responsibility for what they say and that this is not about one party or one group of people.
In his statement, Trump had revealed that the bullet had “pierced” his right ear. The shooting also resulted in one of the rally attendees dying while two others were seriously injured. Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was the suspected shooter, had also been killed.
