(TargetLiberty.org) – Attorney Lanny Davis, who represents ex-President Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen, has warned Joe Tacopina, Trump’s lawyer, to not build his strategy solely by focusing on “personal attacks” against Cohen when defending Trump in his indictment in New York City.
On Thursday, a Manhattan grand jury voted to indict Trump in connection to the $130,000 hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election, in exchange for her silence over their alleged affair. Trump has repeatedly denied the affair.
At the time the hush payment had been organized by Cohen, who had been Trump’s lawyer and fixer. Cohen has already pleaded guilty and he has been sentenced to three years in prison in connection to this case. Last month, he provided his testimony before the Manhattan grand jury and he is expected to be a key witness for the prosecution if they proceed to a trial with the case.
Davis has argued that it would be a mistake on Trump’s attorney’s part if he focused all of his attacks on her client.
Tacopina who had also appeared on the CNN Sunday program before Davis claimed that Cohen is “a pathological, convicted liar, perjurer” and that he was “constitutionally incapable” of retelling the same story twice.
However, Davis stated that Cohen had provided the prosecutors with extensive documentation that supported his testimony over the alleged hush money payment, as well as the payment made to a different woman who had claimed to have had an affair with the former President.
