(TargetLiberty.org) – Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) claims in her new book “Oath and Honor” that former House Speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) had flown to visit former President Donald Trump in Mar-a-Lago following the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot because Trump was “not eating.”

In the book which is to be released on Tuesday, Cheney claims that she had been bewildered by the reasoning behind McCarthy’s visit to Trump following the Capitol insurrection. The book was obtained by CNN ahead of its release, and in the outlet’s recent report, they noted that Cheney had claimed that Trump’s staff had called McCarthy and had asked him to visit Trump.

Cheney had asked McCarthy “What the hell” when she had found out about the request, only to be told by McCarthy that the staff was worried as Trump was “not eating.” He added that this is why they had called him to go visit. Cheney proceeded to ask whether McCarthy had truly gone to Mar-a-Lago because Trump was not eating only to be told yes, by the former Speaker. McCarthy had then stated that Trump was “really depressed.”

Following the Capitol insurrection, Cheney became one of Trump’s most vocal critics and was one of 10 Republicans to have voted in favor of Trump being impeached after the Capitol riots. She proceeded to serve as the House Jan. 6 select committee vice chair and was key in the investigations into the events that transpired that day.

In the book, Cheney also states that following the presidential election, McCarthy had told her that Trump had acknowledged that he had lost the election and that it was “over.”
