President Biden is still ripping the benefits of the unexpected midterm performance which allowed the Democrats to retain control of the Senate. This was a huge win for Biden who has gained political ground against his long standing GOP rival, former President Trump. However, it is not Trump that many around Biden are worried about.
With questions about his age and suitability for the Presidency still circling the President, many are wondering whether Biden would be able to defeat Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis if he manages to win the GOP nomination in 2024.
DeSantis has not announced a presidential race so far, and instead, he has said that his focus is on Florida. However, many Republicans are calling for him to announce a candidacy and go against the former President.
The midterm elections brought positive results for DeSantis whose reelection and success in the state of Florida helped his position within the GOP. On the other hand, Trump’s image suffered from the disappointing midterm results as many Trump-backed candidates failed to win their races.
While Biden had a good midterm election, DeSantis had a great one by all standards, which is why many are beginning to wonder what will happen if the two men are to face each other in the next presidential election.
Cristina Antelo, a Democratic strategist who runs Ferox Strategies, said that Biden’s age remains at the forefront of voters’ minds despite the legislative successes that Trump would have. While Biden is 80 years old right now, DeSantis is only 44 which could make him a hard competitor against Biden.
