(TargetLiberty.org) – A California sheriff has publicly announced she won’t be enforcing the state-imposed lockdown mandate. Apparently, she’s too busy rearresting inmates and suspected criminals who were released to protect them from the coronavirus.
Sheriff Margaret Mims told Fox News state politicians pushed to reduce the prison population without taking note of what counties had already done to protect inmates from COVID-19. In Fresno County, 711 inmates and suspects were released on “zero-dollar” bail. This system was forced on counties by the state government and has resulted in thousands of prisoners being released who couldn’t normally have afforded bail. Of those released in Fresno, 87 are already back in custody after reoffending – and some have committed serious offenses, including sexual assault and assault with a deadly weapon.

Mims says the state’s release policy has nothing to do with public safety – “It has everything to do with ignoring victims, and giving inmates and people who commit crimes a free pass.” She confirmed that her officers are so busy dealing with this new crime wave that they won’t be attempting to enforce social-distancing laws.
