(TargetLiberty.org) – Supporters of the New York Police Department (NYPD) are suing city officials over what they say is a violation of their First Amendment right to show their backing for the Big Apple’s law enforcement officers. Two separate groups are taking Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) and Transport Commissioner Polly Trottenberg to court, alleging the pair are suppressing the groups’ right to free speech while bending the rules to allow left-wing activists their say.

So far this year, the city has approved the painting of eight Black Lives Matter (BLM) murals, including a particularly notorious one on the street in front of Trump Tower. However, when Blue Lives Matter NYC and Stand Up For NYC asked permission to create a mural dedicated to the dozens of police officers killed on duty this year, they were turned down.
The lawsuit claims that BLM was allowed to skip the formal planning process for their murals, because de Blasio approved their message. De Blasio has openly defended his pro-BLM bias at a City Hall conference — now he’ll have to defend it in court.
