(TargetLiberty.org) On Wednesday evening the White House spokesperson Ian Sams released a statement calling the Republican-led trip to the border a ‘publicity stunt.’ Sams stated that the Republicans would rather focus on these publicity stunts rather than spend their attention on partisan solutions. The Republicans were to hold their first field hearing regarding the border crisis that same night and had the trip organized for the following week.

One day after the House Republican scheduled a border visit, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, have also planned a visit to the border city of Laredo, Texas, where they will meet the border sheriffs and local mayors. They are also scheduled to have an aerial tour of the border.

While both parties are trying to gain a deeper understanding of the situation at the border, the White House has claimed that the GOP’s planned visit to the border is a publicity stunt. However, they refused to make a similar assessment of the trip led by Jeffries.

Sams on Wednesday had said that House Republicans needed to spend more of their attention on trying to assist with finding partisan solutions. He added that President Biden is focused on solutions, which is why his plan is currently working. He added that House Republicans “would be wise” to collaborate in strengthening border security and the immigration system.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., visited Cochise County, Arizona, on Thursday along with freshman Reps. Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., Lori Chavez-DeRemer, R-Ore., Jen Kiggans, R-Va., and Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis.
