(TargetLiberty.org) – A Delaware federal judge has dismissed the misdemeanor tax charges against Hunter Biden following the failure of the “sweetheart” plea deal last month.

Last week, the Department of Justice submitted a filing to have the case dismissed ahead of a possible trial that Hunter Biden might take part in in a different district in connection to a felony gun charge. Following the plea deal’s failure, Biden ended up pleading “not guilty” as federal prosecutors admitted that there was an ongoing federal investigation against Hunter Biden.

Prior to this admission, Hunter Biden was set to plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax. The deal was going to allow Hunter Biden to avoid imprisonment in connection to the felony gun charge.

Special Counsel David Weiss and Hunter Biden’s legal team are still discussing a diversion agreement related to the felony charge that would enable Biden to avoid imprisonment. Weiss has also indicated that he was looking into Biden being tried in either California or Washington, D.C. in the future.

On Tuesday, Weiss stated that the claims that his office had “reneged” on the Biden plea deal were not true and that currently, they did not have “in effect” an agreement.

Weiss in a court filing argued that the Biden attorneys currently have a bilateral Diversion Agreement that they are required to abide by. He proceeded to state that Hunter Biden had selected to plead not guilty and that he had “rejected the counter proposals” that were sent on August 7, 2023.
