(TargetLiberty.org) A new national poll has shown an increase in support for President Biden being the party’s nominee in 2024 among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independent voters.

According to the NPR-PBS NewsHour-Marist poll released on Wednesday half of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents have said that Biden is their party’s best option for retaining the White House. On the other hand, 45 percent said that a different candidate would help improve their chances of winning the 2024 presidential election.

This is a large shift as in November more Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters would have preferred a candidate other than Biden to win the Democratic nomination.

In a news release, Marist noted that following the President’s State of the Union address there is an overall increase in Biden’s approval rates.

While President Biden, 80, has not yet announced his reelection campaign, he has often noted his intent to try for a second term in the White House.

On the other hand, the majority of Republican and Republican-leaning independent voters are not as confident about the possibility that former President Donald Trump could win the party’s nomination in 2024. Fifty-four percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents have claimed that the party would have a better chance of winning the White House with a candidate other than Trump, these results are the same as those in November. Around 42 percent claimed that Trump is the party’s best option for winning the White House.

According to the poll, Trump’s favorability rating has also dropped to 68 percent, when it used to be 79 percent in November. This is his lowest rating since winning the 2016 presidential election.
