( – In Wisconsin, ten GOP “fake electors” who had previously falsely claimed that former President Donald Trump was the winner of the 2020 presidential election, settled a civil lawsuit on Wednesday, which required them to admit that President Joe Biden had legitimately won the election. As part of the case settlement, the electors will be required to cooperate with the Justice Department in other cases.

Republicans in their attempts to overturn the results of the presidential election, had fake electors’ slates submitted to Congress from seven swing states. This was part of Trump’s continuously promoted conspiracy theory that there had been widespread voter fraud in the presidential election which had been stolen from him because of fraud.

Noth independent legal experts and the courts have repeatedly rejected Trump’s claims of fraud.

The ten fake electors in Wisconsin admitted that they had played a part in an attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. The deal also required them to withdraw the previous false filings that they had sent to Congress where it was claimed that Trump had been the winner of the state’s election.

They further pledged that they would be cooperating with any of the investigations or prosecutions that the Department of Justice might bring forward against those who tried to break the law by arguing that Biden had won the presidential election. However, none of the fake electors were required to pay attorney fees or damages, nor were they required to admit liability.

The case in Wisconsin had been brought forward by a group of Democrats.
