Biden Repeats Previously Fact-Checked Claims in Effort to Push Gun Control

Biden Continues To Spew Misleading Claims About The Second Amendment

(TargetLiberty.org) – On May 30, President Joe Biden spoke at the Arlington National Cemetery after traveling to Uvalde, Texas, to mourn with the families who lost loved ones in the deadly school shooting on May 24. He stated the “Second Amendment was never absolute,” a claim that many have debunked as false during his remarks. Many believe he’s using the rhetoric as a jumping point to push for gun control in the United States.

As originally written, there are no limitations to “keep and bear Arms” for the people of a “well regulated Militia.” The amendment does not specify which arms are and are not appropriate for those in America. In fact, severe gun regulation was not recognized until 1934 with the National Firearms Act, which addresses taxation, importing, and sales of named weapon types.

However, Biden claimed during his speech that people couldn’t run out and buy cannons and the like when the Second Amendment came into being. Since there’s no mention of weapon types in the unamended Constitution, the claim simply isn’t true.

Coincidentally, the Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling soon on a case known as New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen, which may resolve one of the biggest disputes in the nation in well over a decade.
