(TargetLiberty.org) – Biden administration officials have claimed that they are looking into a proposed plan that would force migrants who enter the country illegally to have to stay in Texas while waiting for their asylum screening. The proposed plan is viewed as a way to reduce the wave of immigrants crossing into the country through the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Los Angeles Times report on the matter noted that the three U.S. officials who revealed the proposed plans did not have the authorization to discuss it. Still, the officials revealed that GPS monitoring devices, like ankle bracelets, were going to be used for tracking the location of the immigrants and ensuring that they stay in Texas. It is possible that the rule could also be implemented for other border states.
The asylum screening would be a requirement for migrants who want to stay in the U.S. The officials also noted that discussions with local groups would ensue in order for the migrants to be given shelter during that time.
A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson had recently told Fox News Digital that they were committed to creating alternative ways for migrants to be able to legally come into the country, while at the same time punishing those who did not use one of the legal pathways to come into the country. They further noted that since May there have been more than 200,000 people who have either been returned or removed.
This possible plan by the Biden administration is going to come as they attempt to address the surge in migrant encounters at the country’s southern border.
