(TargetLiberty.org) – Republicans have criticized President Biden’s recent move to create a pathway for undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens to gain permanent residency. Former President Trump accused Biden of trying to register new Democratic voters in the upcoming election. The recent move could help around 550,000 people by simplifying their migration status.

Despite claims, the order does not create new citizens that will have the right to vote in November Still, the GOP fears it could lead to more Democratic voters in the future. Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt accused Biden of granting mass amnesty to potential future voters. Similarly, Sen. Tommy Tuberville asserted that Democrats are seeking new voters to gain electoral advantage.

Rep. Greg Casar responded sarcastically, highlighting the inefficiency of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), arguing that new voters would not be swiftly processed. The Republicans who have opposed Biden’s border policies have pointed to this recent order as more proof that he can’t be trusted to handle immigration issues.

The process for citizenship is expected to take at least 50 months for those benefiting from this order.

Speaker Mike Johnson slammed Biden for the dual executive actions arguing that he was using national security to play politics.

In defense, Biden emphasized that his actions aim to address immigration issues, not play politics. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre clarified that the relief action is limited and excludes new arrivals. Biden reiterated his willingness to work with anyone to solve immigration problems, pointing out that this is one of his key tasks as the U.S. president.
