(TargetLiberty.org) – On Sunday, President Biden declared that if the U.S. defaults on its debt, then he would be blameless. The claim was made during a news conference in Hiroshima, Japan, where Biden is attending the G-7 summit.
For months Republicans have insisted on negotiating with Biden to reach an agreement regarding a debt ceiling increase. However, the two sides were at a stalemate from February until earlier this month when the White House returned to the negotiations. Still, Biden is arguing that “MAGA Republicans” are the ones who are trying to crash the economy by allowing a default ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
Specifically, Biden stated that he had done his part and that it was now up to the Republicans to make a move as a lot of the things they have currently proposed are unacceptable. Following this statement, Biden received a follow-up from Fox News’ Peter Doocy who asked whether Biden believed that no one would be able to blame him if there was a breach.
Biden then joked that obviously, no one would blame him and that Doocy himself would say he had done a great job.
Doocy asked again whether Biden would be completely blameless in the situation. To this Biden argued that based on the case and merits he has presented he would be blameless. He added however that on the political side “no one would be blameless.” He proceeded to argue that he knew there were some MAGA Republicans who were considering the default, because Biden would be blamed for it as the President, thus ensuring that there is no chance his 2024 reelection campaign would be successful.
