(TargetLiberty.org) – On Tuesday, President Biden slammed Republicans while touting his own agenda during a speech in front of a crowd of union workers. This was the president’s first public speech since he announced his reelection bid.

During the speech, he argued in reference to the House Republican proposal that would require spending cuts as part of the debt limit increase that they wanted to see people struggling, with those on Medicare losing their coverage, and veterans losing their access to doctors. He proceeded to state that this was the Republican’s preference instead of cutting subsidies to Big Oil, which last year made $200 billion, or Big Pharma and other large corporations.

At the North American Building Trades Union conference, he also added that these are the “same old” “dressed up in MAGA clothing.” He added that the only thing that was worse was the fact that this time they are arguing that if Biden does not agree to their demands, they are going to let the country “default on its debt.”

On Tuesday, the White House stated that Biden would veto the House Republican measure if it reached his desk. As part of the legislation, government funding would be capped at fiscal 2022 levels, and there would also be a 1 percent cap on the amount of annual growth on spending allowed in the next decade.

The rest of Biden’s remarks focused on his successes in furthering his agenda through the Inflation Reduction Act and the infrastructure law. He added that their “economic plan is working” but that there is still “more to do.” This was a hint to his 2024 presidential campaign.
