Biden Administration May Shut Down Controversial Disinformation Board

Public Backlash Forces Biden Admin To Rethink Orwellian “Disinformation Board” Ambitions

(TargetLiberty.org) – On April 27, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the formation of a Disinformation Governance Board, naming Nina Jankowicz as executive director. However, there was a lot of backlash from the public about the purpose of such oversight, causing the government to pause the measure on May 17 for a comprehensive review. Following the announcement, Jankowicz turned in her resignation amidst alleged personal and professional attacks regarding her position on the board.

Many people questioned Jankowicz’s behavior on social media regarding the debunked Steele dossier and Hunter’s infamous laptop scandal. The heavy criticism brought her whole role into question, and many were likening her and the disinformation board to the Ministry of Truth in George Orwell’s “1984” — fearing authoritarian practices and censorship.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the department probably could have done a “better job of communicating” the board’s purpose and mission. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) said the pause was a “win” for the First Amendment.

During the pause, the DHS said it would conduct a review of the board and its mission, supplying Congress with a report of its findings and suggestions within 75 days.

With so many against the formation of the board, do you think the Biden administration will end up scrapping the idea altogether?
