(TargetLiberty.org) – President Joe Biden and his administration have implemented several policies that Republicans believe have created a crisis on the southern border. Recently, the head of Homeland Security made a decision that is raising eyebrows.
On Friday, March 26, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas sent a letter to the members of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) advising them that he was ending the “terms of current members.” The decision impacts 32 members and included people from previous administrations and career federal employees. They were unpaid but provided critical advice on immigration and counterterrorism given to DHS.
NEW — Mayorkas today fired most of the members of the Homeland Security Advisory Council, an independent, bipartisan committee that included some Trumpers as well as respected DHS veterans. Mayorkas says he wants to remake it — with @mariasacchetti https://t.co/ErCIIb3OlK

Former DHS head Chad Wolf said he respects the secretary’s decision but believes “dismissing the entire council” will interrupt “a lot of important work.” Rep. John Katko (R-NY), a ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, called the decision an “absolute shame.” The decision comes as the government tries to control a crisis at the southern border when the council members’ advice could have possibly contributed toward a plan to do just that. In the letter, Mayorkas said that he intends to “reconstitute” the advisory council when a “new model has been developed.”
