(TargetLiberty.org) – Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) blasted the Biden administration over the recently released border wall order arguing that voters would now have a harder time separating the immigration and border policies of former President Donald Trump and President Biden.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, O’Rourke spoke up in opposition to the new policy by making a list of points. As he said, walls are ineffective and Biden had previously vowed not to “build them. He added that this “impotent political posturing,” would make it hard to distinguish between the Biden and Trump administration’s border policies.
O’Rourke who had run against Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in the gubernatorial election pointed out that Biden’s policy was a “waste” of using executive powers and argued that instead, the President could have fixed the asylum system.
On Wednesday the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that the 26 federal laws that were blocking the construction of a border wall in Starr County, Texas would be waived. This is the first time Biden has used an executive power frequently employed by Trump in order to have southern border projects funded.
During the Trump administration military and defense construction funds were used for building the southern border wall, which had been an essential point of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Following Congress’ refusal to fund the project, Trump had resorted to using executive power in order to divert the billions of dollars needed for the project.
President Biden, when he took office in 2021, canceled the declaration of a state of emergency on the southern border and cut projects that dealt with the manufacturing of the border wall. All the funds were returned to their original purpose or used for repairing the environmental damage caused by the project.
