(TargetLiberty.org) – Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders informed his supporters and the world on Wednesday that he was suspending his campaign for the 2020 Presidential race. Sander’s decision effectively makes Joe Biden the presumptive nominee for the Democrats as they run against President Trump in the November general election.
Biden’s 10 wins on Super Tuesday alerted Sanders and his supporters the road ahead was going to be tough. His campaign was further complicated by the coronavirus pandemic currently wreaking havoc in the US.
The question on everyone’s mind now is will Sanders’ followers will now support Joe Biden in his bid for the White House, or not?
Bernie Sanders, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist was making his second run for the White House in 4 years. In 2016, many of his supporters resented Hillary Clinton’s late surge in the delegate count, effectively taking away any chance of a path forward for Bernie. Some Democrat experts believe the lack of support for Hillary from Sanders’ supporters is why she lost.
Even though he’s effectively dropping out, Sanders plans to stay on the ballots in states that still have primaries to continue to build his delegate count. By doing so, he may have the opportunity to influence the Democrat platform at the convention, which is now scheduled for Aug. 17-20 in Milwaukee.
