(TargetLiberty.org) – Social media influencer Andrew Tate, who has gained millions of online followers over his promotion of an “alpha-male” lifestyle was indicted in Romania on Tuesday on rape and sex trafficking charges.

The Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), Romania’s largest anti-organized crime agency, released a statement announcing that prosecutors had pressed charges against not only Andrew Tate but also his brother Tristan and two Romanian women in a Bucharest court. The four defendants are being accused of having created a criminal group in 2021 focused on committing criminal activities, such as human trafficking, not only in Romania but also in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Prosecutors allege that the two Tate brothers, who have both British and U.S. citizenship, had recruited seven female victims through the “loverboy method” which means that they misled them claiming that they intended on marrying, cohabitating, or pursuing a serious relationship with them.

The victims were then taken to buildings in the Ilfov county of Romania where they had to face physical violence, mental coercion, intimidation, and control through surveillance and alleging that the women had certain debts that needed to be handled. The women were sexually exploited by the members of the group and were made to “perform pornographic acts” in front of the camera which would later be shared on social media platforms.

Prosecutors have also ordered that many of the assets of the Tate brothers be confiscated, including many luxury watches, 15 luxury cars, and around $3 million in cryptocurrency.
