Americans Are Crossing The Southern Border Into Mexico — You’ll Never Guess Why
(TargetLiberty.org) – Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador visited the United States on July 12. He met with President Joe Biden in the White House and during his meeting took a swipe at American gas prices.
López Obrador told Biden his administration decided to allow Americans who live on the border to enter Mexico to buy gas. He claimed US citizens are crossing the border to fill up their tanks with fuel that costs $3.12 a gallon for regular compared to the US price of $4.78.

However, the Mexican president did not cite where he got the price for the average gallon of gas. According to GlobalPetrolPrices.com the average cost for a gallon of gas in Mexico on July 11 was $4.319. The New York Post reported the price in Texas was $4.20/gal, while the average across the country was $4.66/gal.
California, which borders Mexico, was above $6.00/gal. The state has the highest gas prices in the country and its residents are paying nearly $2.00 more per gallon than drivers south of the border. That’s a massive difference.
Mexico has reportedly been subsidizing gas prices to ease the pain at the pump for its citizens. In April, López Obrador temporarily paused the subsidies in the border region after it experienced shortages and reports indicated Americans were crossing into the country to buy cheaper fuel.
