(TargetLiberty.org) – A federal judge has stepped in to help California’s liberal government maintain its restrictions on Second Amendment rights. For now, “assault weapons” are still banned in the state.
A federal appeals court granted California a stay on its assault weapons ban Monday as the state appealed a decision to lift it. https://t.co/647oQzwEWQ

On June 5, a historic ruling by US District Judge Roger Benitez blasted California’s ban on popular semi-automatic rifles as unconstitutional and issued a permanent injunction against enforcing it. Predictably, this enraged left-wing gun grabbers, who immediately started working to reverse the ruling. Now the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has ordered a stay of Judge Benitez’s ruling while the appeal continues. California AG Rob Bonta welcomed the decision, calling the ban a “life-saving” law.
Now the 9th Circuit will decide whether the ban survives – but, until they make a final ruling, California is free to continue restricting what guns people can own. Governor Gavin Newsom (D) has been loudly defending the ban ever since Benitez’s ruling, in which Benitez himself stayed his injunction by 30 days to give the state time to appeal. If the 9th Circuit finds in favor of the state’s ban, the case will likely end up in the Supreme Court.
