2021 Saw Increased Number of Unprovoked Attacks on Cops in America

Shocking Report Reveals Record Number Of Police Killed In Unprovoked Attacks In The US

(TargetLiberty.org) – Police have faced an obscene amount of hate and ridicule over the last several years. Groups like Black Lives Matter have held events with thousands of attendees to push anti-law enforcement narratives. Many officers have responded to the rhetoric by leaving the profession altogether. Others have been injured and even killed by criminals who hate cops, like the five officers killed by the 2016 Dallas mass shooter.

Since the 2020 death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers, lawmakers and activists on the far-left have demanded cities slash law enforcement budgets across the country. The year after the controversial death saw an increase in unprovoked attacks on law enforcement officers.

FBI 2021 Statistics

On May 9, the FBI released data on the number of law enforcement officers killed in 2021. There were 73 police officers feloniously murdered last year. Of the cops who died, 24 of them were killed in unprovoked attacks. According to the federal agency, there has been an increase in the number of ambushes on police. The Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted (LEOKA) Program run by the Bureau seeks to collect data to find a way to reverse the trend.

The Victims

In January 2021, NYPD Officer Jason Rivera, 22, and Officer Wilbert Mora, 27, responded to a domestic violence call in Harlem with a third officer when violence unfolded. The alleged gunman 47-year-old Lashawn McNeil walked out of a back bedroom and ambushed the officers who were in the apartment speaking to a woman. Rivera was killed on the scene and Mora passed away days later.

Baltimore Officer Keona Holley, 36, was sitting in her patrol car a week before Christmas last year when two suspects ambushed her. They shot the officer in the head. She died a week later after clinging to life at the hospital.

In October 2021, three Three Harris County Precinct 4 deputies were working a side job when a man ambushed them in a parking lot. He opened fire with an AR-15, killed Deputy Kareem Atkins, 30, and injured Deputies Darrall Garrett and Juqaim Barthen.

The deceased officers gave their lives protecting their communities, as did dozens of their colleagues around America. Each of their deaths was as senseless as they were preventable. While there’s no evidence to suggest all of the ambushed police died because of the spread of anti-LEO rhetoric, it’s hard not to draw a line between the increase in killings and the rhetoric against officers.

Do you think the two are related or just a coincidence?
